November 7, 2009 - The 29th SA & WA Annual Awards for Cinematography was held at the Holiday Inn, Hindley Street, Adelaide. Every year Picture Hire Australia publicly thank those who chose their equipment to achieve their goals. This year the winning entries have been uploaded to Picture Hire's Vimeo site for all to see.
There were two winners in 2009 picking up four awards. Lucas Scheffel won Bronze in the Music Clip category for 'The Deadly Boyz 'Rise' & Pete Hall won three awards, the first was Gold in Corporate & Educational for 'Trapped in Time', in Commercials Local/Regional Pete won Bronze for 'Right Direction' & to cap it off a second Bronze for 'Henry & Bee' in Dramatised Documentaries. Thank you Lucas & Pete, & well done.

August 14, 2009 - Dark Mirror Pictures proudly presents the Adelaide premiere of Dave de Vries’ Jekyll-and-Hyde revenge thriller, Carmilla Hyde, at the Mercury Cinema on Wednesday August 19th.
In January 2008 Producers Dave De Vries, Tony Ganzis, Fiona De Caux & Andrei Gostin starting shooting. Carmilla Hyde was shot in three & a half weeks in suburban Adelaide on a shoestring budget. The minimal crew worked hard & fast to achieve this piece of edgy new Australian cinema.
DoP Maxx Corkindale chose Picture Hire Australia's Sony PMW-EX1, shooting in full 1920 x 1080 HD & framing for an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Maxx saw the EX1 as the perfect tool to achieve the strong visual direction of Dave de Vries. “Its size & portability allowed us to shoot both the big-picture sensibility of the psychiatrist scenes & also to swing the camera around during the fight scenes”.
August 12, 2009 - Entries for the Over The Fence Short Film Fest are now closed & the films have been selected. Congratulations to Director Michael Zeitz &DoP Brad Halstead, their films 'Killjoy' & 'Luck of the Irish' have made the cut. In it's 12th year, the annual Perth-based festival which is specifically for comedy shorts, selected 11 films from Australia, France, USA & Canada.
Over The Fence are organising a screening of all 11 films at a date to be confirmed at The Mercury Cinema.
For both films Picture Hire Australia supplied grip, lighting & monitoring.

July 27, 2009 - Congratulations to one of Picture Hire's regulars, Kirsty Stark for winning the NSW leg of Vantastic Adventures "Drive It, Film It, Win It" competition. Kirsty & sister Carly will spend 6 weeks driving from Brisbane to Sydney in September & October.

June 5, 2009 - Picture Hire Australia is pleased to offer David Gregan a part time position & work alongside Pete Hall in the camera department.
Dave brings with him an impressive string of credits including various roles in no less than seven feature films, Broken Hill, Beautiful, Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger, just to name a few. Dave studied at MAPS in 06/07 & in 08 he quickly established himself & won a Silver ACS in the Student Cinematography category for "Chambers".

May 28, 2009 - If you're not all aware Doritos caused a stir recently by putting $20,000 up for grabs in search for their next TV Commercial. Filmmakers Australia wide were invited to submit their 29sec ads, with the judges choosing the best 9 + 1 wildcard. The general public then cast their votes online & the winner walks away with 20 big ones & have their entry aired on National TV.
Picture Hire Australia was involved with three entries coming from South Australia, Cinematographers Maxx Corkindale, Brad Halstead & David Gregan all used our cameras, lights &/or accessories to make their ads.
The Doritos winner has been announced, unfortunately it wasn't one of our guys.
February 26, 2009 -The South Australian Screen Awards (SASA) exhibit, celebrate & promote the best screen works of the South Australian screen industry.
